About CJR Designs Watercolor Gallery

Carla Ramos graduated from Maine College of Art and Design in 2007 with a degree in Digital Graphic Design. During the pandemic, she decided to pursue an unexplored medium: watercolor. She had plenty of time to practice, and as she sketched and painted, the hours flew by. Initially, a love of botanicals led her to work reproducing flowers, trees, and herbs. She began her watercolor journey by using the The Language of Flowers.

Carla found that sentiment can be expressed by using flower and plant symbolism, so flowers and plants began to inform her paintings: for example, birth flowers were painted for a loved one’s birthday and a spray of gladiolus for an August birthday represented the month, as well as symbolizing integrity and strength. Choice of color can also convey emotion. Red flowers generally symbolize passion, love, and romance, while pink flowers represent happiness, grace, and femininity. Yellow flowers evoke joy, friendship, and prosperity, and white flowers purity, innocence, and sympathy.

Often, Carla painted as she thought of a particular person, or persons, and once completed, that painting belonged to them exclusively! Now, she has expanded her work and continues to find other subjects to explore in watercolor art. Please enjoy her work as much as she likes creating it!
